About the Distro
1791 originally opened in October 2008, under the name Reinvent Love. The distro functions as an overarching structure under which Alix publishes his two ongoing zines, Reinventing Love and Gendrfailz, as well as poetry chapbooks and anything else he happens to be working on.
Currently, 1791 does not distribute the works of other writers, although it is open to submissions.
The distro is definitely a labour of love; generally speaking, nobody really makes money selling zines, and 1791 is no exception. It's run entirely out of pocket and an Edmonton P.O. box. In fact, most of the distro can be found on a single bookshelf in alix's apartment.
Submissions
1791 is currently accepting submissions. Alix is particularly interested in zines on queerness, gender identity, body modification, journalism, music, and many subjects he doesn't know about yet. When submitting your zine, please include the following information on a piece of paper:
your name
address
email
wholesale price
retail price
Be sure to include shipping and handling in your wholesale price. Refer to the contact page for mailing info.
1791 does not accept zines with racist, sexist, homophobic, or transphobic content. It's also worth noting that Alix has very little interest in zines promoting religion or veganism.
About Alix
Alix is a 22-year-old student and writer currently living in Edmonton, Alberta. He started writing his first zine, Reinventing Love, in the spring of 2008, and has been at it ever since. Reinventing Love has evolved into a personal zine about the general exhaltations and despairs of life-as-usual, while Gendrfailz is an examination of personal politics, gender identity, and Alix's place in the world at large.
In addition to writing zines, Alix is currently the 2010/2011 Opinion Editor at The Gateway, the University of Alberta's official student newspaper. He also writes a decent amount of poetry and some short fiction, in between classes as a history major at the U of A.
